We all have our own version of a family tradition. Why not create one centered around fitness- A Fit Family Tradition!
Whether it’s Friday night family movie night, a post-Thanksgiving dinner football game or an annual road trip to the beach, we rally around traditions to help us unplug, bond and make special memories that last a lifetime.
Our own favorite tradition is an annual trip to the Whistler Blackcomb ski resort for a week of skiing, snowboarding and piles of snowy fun! Whistler has so much to offer everyone in the family— amazing skiing and snowboarding, Family Zones on the slopes for the days we want to play together, all-day lessons and childcare for the kids on the days we don’t (it happens!), fabulous après and endless activities in the Village.
We tackle the slopes and explore everything Whistler has to offer by day while evenings are for family après— resting our tired legs over pizza and the occasional dance party— celebrating our individual accomplishments and laughing about the things that didn’t go so right. (Usually involving Mommy falling down the mountain!)
We’ve made so many amazing memories over the years that it’s so much more than just a week of skiing. It’s our Fit Family tradition— a week of fun and exercise in a place that feels like home.

How did it become a tradition rather than just something we do?
Besides an amazing endorphin boost, magic happens when you add physical activity into time spent as a family:
You encourage each other to push past perceived limits and to persevere.

You finally master that slope that’s kicked your ass for two years straight- then watch your daughter conquer it on her first try.
You find inspiration in unexpected places.
You make sporty new friends and role models along the way.

Surprises greet you when you let the day take you along for the ride.
Each member of the family leaves feeling more confident, accomplished and grateful.
Your own Fit Family tradition doesn’t have to be elaborate, complicated or as expensive as going on a ski-holiday and you still get some incredible benefits!
It could be as simple as a Sunday night bike ride to the ice cream shop or running a St. Paddy’s Day 5k fun run each year. The keys to making an awesome tradition is that it’s enjoyable, it’s creative and maybe even challenging to get the adrenaline pumping!
Steal one of these ideas to make a Fit Family Tradition of your own!
• A hike to celebrate the first day of spring

• A Post-Christmas lunch sledding session

The sky is the limit, and big or small, gain quality time together, reinforce a healthy lifestyle and make memories for your kids to talk about for a lifetime.
