The holidays are here and sadly the dark winter doldrums are right around the corner. (Booo!)
With cold days, long dark nights and wet weather, it’s all too easy to just stay in and stay put. (And succumb to cabin fever come February!) Thankfully this holiday season brings us plenty of exciting sports and fitness items to add to your wish list and theirs for a year filled with active adventures!
These gift ideas are sure to bring smiles all around when found under the tree. So, go ahead—add these to your list and get your go on!!
How long have you been running with a cord connecting your headphones to your music device, flapping around, getting yanked out or flinging your new iPhone onto the moving belt of your treadmill? (Is that last one just me?) It is FINALLY time to go wireless and say goodbye to the struggle. You can’t go wrong with this pair— Bose quality sound, ear buds designed to stay put and sweat and weather resistant for those long winter runs.
Think your little one is too young to start snowboarding? Think again! The Burton After School Special Snowboard Package and Burton Riglet snowboards are just the right size for your little snow bunnies aged 3-6 and are perfect for them to learn on. Adding a Riglet Reel to the front of the board allows you to pull your mini shredder along and hold on to them when they decide they’re ready to fly down the hill. (Take it from my experience—you’ll need it.) Check out the Burton Riglet website to see whether their free 30 minute lessons are being offered near you this season too!
For all your active and sporty girls, Athleta offers a full line of high quality activewear in girl’s sizes 6-14— everything from active tanks and running tights in high performance, moisture wicking fabrics to trendy post- workout hoodies and wraps that you’ll wish were in your closet instead of hers! Athleta holds sales often and local stores offer free Mother/ Daughter fitness classes like Share Your Light Mother and Daughter Yoga— perfect for enjoying an active life together!
Fitness multi- tasking at its finest! A stainless-steel water bottle AND high density foam roller in ONE piece of equipment? Yes! Perfect for staying hydrated and remembering to stretch and massage those post-workout tight spots. Yes please, and get in my gym bag right now.
This was at the top of our wish list this year and is already under our tree! Way cheaper than the popular Go Pro cameras, the VTech Kidizoom Action Cam features a 1.4-inch color video camera LCD screen and the ability to take videos, photos, stop-motion videos and time-lapse photos. The camera is protected by a durable waterproof casing and can be mounted on bikes, skateboards, snowboards, scooters— even take it underwater! Kids can edit with frames and filters then download their creations via the included USB cable or save them on a microSD card (not included). Perfect for little action sports stars!
Fitness Blender is my go- to at-home workout program. With over 500 free workout routines online which can be filtered by target area, workout type and intensity it’s perfect for when at-home workouts are best for you. Cute, comfortable maternity activewear is impossible to find so the For Two Fitness Wear line is perfect for all those mamas-to-be and new mamas who just want to look and feel fabulous during a workout. (Or just kicking it around town!) Famous for their “For Two” graphic tanks (Running for Two, Toning for Two etc) For Two Fitness Wear covers all the right areas, stays put and is So. Darn. Comfortable. I lived in my Ultimate Maternity Micro-Plush Fitness Pant my ENTIRE second pregnancy.
With a low, wide deck, adjustable handle and sturdy construction the Globber scooter is the perfect ride for your active little one who is always on the go! The 2 wheels in the front design and low deck make for a more stable ride and the handlebars can be locked to prevent sharp turns. There are a variety of colors to choose from— grab one in their favorite!
The Kicks collection of fiction books are written by pro soccer star and US National Women’s Team member Alex Morgan. The main character, Devin, is a middle school soccer player on her team, The Kicks. The books are an enjoyable read and feature lessons in perseverance, teamwork and leadership—all very important for inspiring your favorite sporty gals!
For your little dribbler— ball, drool or otherwise— it’s never too early to include your littlest ones in some active fun! With a soccer goal, basketball hoop, several interactive buttons and light-up scoreboard, littles can work on gross motor skills while having a ball! (Pun intended.)
Okay this one has nothing to do with fitness but is just SO perfect for all the sports (and Lego) fans in your family! These fun building sets are more exciting than the usual sports t-shirt gift and are available in NFL, MLB, MLS, NHL and College Football teams.
Need even more inspiration?
Class Pass, Gift Card or Lessons- How about a class pass to one of their favorite fitness classes? Or sign up for lessons to try something new? Winter is a great time to try a new active adventure—or rekindle with an old favorite! Spin class, Yoga, Ski lessons— there are endless possibilities.
Season Tickets to a Women’s Sports Team- Tickets to women’s sporting events are a great value and a TON of fun. Very family friendly, it’s a wonderful experience to get out there and support our female athletes while exposing kids to strong female role models.
Go ahead and sign them up for that race- Whether they love running races or just need a little kick in the pants this makes a perfect stocking stuffer. Just make sure you give them enough time to train 🙂
